The comments on this post have gone completely off the rails for the jokes and humor community, so I’m locking them.
Blunt axe, sword, and insufficient drop height leading to death by suffocation instead of neck snapping all have absolutely nothing to do with guillotines and instead have to do with beheading/death by axe/sword and hanging. The article very explicitly says that this kind of tipping did not happen (or was extremely rare).
You are correct that the article talks about people tipping the guillotine operator, in the specific context of “certain eras in England”, which implies it was neither widespread nor applicable to anything outside of that very specific context.
Right, to be clear I wasn’t saying it didn’t happen, just that it wasn’t customary. I don’t think it’s fair to say that the practice was as widespread as the comment implies.
reminder to be nice on our instance
This is a reminder to be nice on Beehaw.
We’ve had users from other instances complain about it, not even recognizing that they are doing so on our thread, to our users, on our instance. Every single one of these users is not following our rules - they’re extremely emotionally charged and telling us that we’re terrible people (bad faith, not nice).
I understand that the fediverse can be difficult to understand and that the user interface is not the most user friendly, but also why are they so upset about what’s happening somewhere else that they have no control over? The strength of the emotions they are feeling over such an abstract idea (an instance they are not on defederating from another instance that they are also not on) that doesn’t even effect them, is just bizarre to me.
Currently car minimal. I’d be free if my real estate agent wasn’t so good and got me a parking space for free 😔
There are times where I still use the car and if it wasn’t there I’d probably figure out an alternative but since it is there, I just default to it when doing things like larger scale grocery shopping or going to places that public transit would take a long time to get to 😩
One day, perhaps!
For those who are reporting this, it’s a satire piece and is the correct sub
