‘All you can eat’ at Applebees sounds like a threat.
It’s been nearly a decade since I have eaten there but the last two times I did, I had some significant intestinal distress.

I can’t. They are computers and they can be programmed however the restaurant wants. Any default other than zero is unethical and predatory.
I have nothing personal against Adele but something about her singing voice feels like she’s grinding glass into my eardrums. It’s painful to listen to.
If some sites only need me to click the one checkbox to prove I am a human, why aren’t ALL sites using this method?!
OMG thank you I didn’t know that!
I kept pressing and holding and got annoyed that the change keyboard dialog would pop up. Pressing and moving is the secret!
Ooh in that case I may try using it for typing again. My typing accuracy on Heliboard is abysmal.
What don’t you like about HeliBoard? I have it and FUTO both installed, but I prefer HeliBoard due to its ‘hold space bar to move cursor’ option. Then I use FUTO for the occasional SpeechToText.
Hey now, Pandora still pays 0.133 cents per play to the artists like they always have!
Surprisingly, it’s more than Deezer pays (0.11 cents).
So on a good month, 10 to 15 cents of my $5.00 subscription will go to the artists.
…I think I just talked myself out of paying for this subscription any longer.
Agent Smith: “Hello, Mr Anderson.”
These companies are scraping the internet to train their models. Scraping the internet isn’t bad; we scrape the internet constantly for all kinds of data. The free and open exchange of knowledge is what the internet is for. IMO you can’t steal text, audio, or video that someone already put up on the internet to be looked at or listened to. It can be pirated or it can be scraped.
“When a new technology comes along that breaks copyright, it’s always been copyright that must change, not the technology.” - Cory Doctorow
I highly recommend Cory’s now 20-year-old speech on copyright and DRM. You can find it all over the web.

Completely agree. They could also build traffic-calming infrastructure on this stretch of road that doesn’t necessitate tricking people into a false reality like ridiculous pothole decals do (which I hope are not even real and are made up for this meme, but probably are real).
Is stealing the right word to use? Or would it be more accurate to say ‘scraping’ or ‘unauthorized use’?
Oh absolutely it can be. I think most people shooting at a drone aren’t intending to hurt anyone, and the possibility of anyone being seriously hurt is largely dependent on how populated the area is if the drone crashes.
Shooting at an occupied aircraft though? The likelihood that someone could be killed goes way up, right? The intent has probably also changed: for a drone it’s property destruction, for occupied aircraft it’s most likely murder.
Some people believe that intent doesn’t matter and that it’s the results of the crime that matter. I don’t subscribe to that reasoning because then the sentencing of a crime focuses on punishment instead of rehabilitation, and I think intent should have influence on if and how we rehabilitate people, but that’s getting into a whole different discussion.
What do you say when the cops first pull you over? “Why’d you pull me over?”
And when they start asking questions? “I’m not discussing my day.”
And if they keep asking questions? “Am I being detained, or am I free to go?”
And if detained, what do you say? “I invoke the fifth.”
And then what do you do??
You think someone shooting a drone – a thing that by definition doesn’t have any people in it – should have the same law and sentencing applied as shooting a plane full of people? That seems pretty different to me.
As someone who currently uses searxng and kagi, I can say that kagi gives the best results of any general internet search engine. Do I like paying money for it? Of course not. But it will keep getting mentioned as long as it keeps providing the best results.
