I live in an emissions check only state. My car is an EV and I admit I take enjoyment in knowing ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) car drivers have an inconvenience that I do not.
That said, I’d rather we had regular mandatory inspections. Cars are already dangerous. We should be proactively trying to catch issues that could suddenly cause them to behave unexpectedly.

I would think cities would want e-bikes to be accessible. I’d be surprised if difference in risk to both riders and those around them as compared to regular pedal bikes is anything other than negligible. But it’s an ultra low emissions (assuming a polluting source of power used to charge the battery) with lower infrastructure requirements and maintainance than cars.
This is just speaking for myself, but I bet it’s a common sentiment among e-bike owners. I have no interest in bicycling as a hobby or method of exercise. I also own a car. But I do like having a motorized extremely cheap to use means of transportation to use around town, and I often do.
As I’m sure you’re aware, it’s a real shit show here. You’d be right to be terrified! Abroad 15 years is awesome. Part of me envies that for sure.

I think that’s part of it for me too. I mailed it priority even though I have quite a bit of time (next trip is in November) just because I knew I’d get a tracking number. So I can know it arrived, at least.
I’m in the United States. I honestly don’t fully understand the nuances of it myself. When I applied for my passport I did so at a post office. But you got me curious so I did a quick search and looks like they can be at clerk’s offices, libraries, city halls, courthouses. So depends on where you are I guess.
I landed on doing it this way because I found an online renewal option on https://www.usa.gov/passport which sounded convenient so I followed that process and after filling out the form it had me print it out and instructed me to mail the form, my current passport, and the processing fee. So I did.
Two weeks is so fast! That’s awesome.

I don’t have any great solution. Given how car-centric the US is car ownership really isn’t optional for a lot of people.
