Apple is a trademarked brand name, but it’s far older than computers. Trademarks aren’t a blanket ownership of a word, they’re a disprovable presumption by a court that a trademark has a relationship, or may have soon, with s particular company in the minds of consumers.

I was just listening to an explanation of this effectively fake bit of information this morning. Basically, at least in MA and other states like it, both dems and republicans saw a drop in registration because registrations work differently now. Where registrations are automatic, they don’t default to a party affiliation and you have to actively select such, which most people aren’t going to do. As a result, an absolutely enormous proportion of registrations are now unaffiliated and BOTH parties are more or less taking a hit–however, because Dems get more registrations historically anyway and many of those are now no longer going in to register just party affiliation, they seem disproportionately hit. End of the day, not much is really changing that we can understand from the voting registrations, but we’ll see what happens in the midterms.

18F was also mandated to work with state and local governments through various grant programs to upgrade their digital infrastructure. It was a great, albeit still not sufficiently supported, program that of course these silly fucking morons got rid of just to replace with one that has enshitification built right in from the start. Republicans are truly the party of enshitification.

Chicago is not DC and I honestly think they’re going to get the violence they’re probably looking for, but i don’t think it will go as well for them as they expect. But anyone who supports and facilitates the current regime deserves a pension plan of a five foot rope and a spot along a bridge so oh well.

This is actually yet another terrible outcome of Israel’s genocide from my understanding–the habitability of the entire area is effectively in question due to the sheer volume and degree of devastation that has been wrought. Effectively, even if Israel magically became a non-rogue state today, a resettlement and reparations program is necessary across Israel/Palestine for the survivors.

I think a lot of people do not understand that Zionism actually does have a specific meaning and ideological underpinning spanning the last 150 years. It is not simply the contention that this place over in the Levant should be called Israel and have a bunch of Jews there.

This…is an example of laws actually being applied to a wealthy corporate actor exactly as they are and have been applied to random ass individuals? What are you talking about.
Also, patents literally predate the US’ founding, and copyright is hundreds of years old, moreover IP rights are enshrined in the constitution. Again, like, what???

What? No, this is just basic common sense law being applied as one would expect. They literally pirated shitloads of books via torrent. That’s open and shut infringement and always has been. This doesn’t apply to scraped text data you’re licensed to access, or purchased books they digitized or purchased in digital form. It just finds that, no, you cannot torrent without license volumes and volumes of copyright protected material, even if your eventual user of it may be otherwise treated as fair use (or, imo, not at all infringing).

It probably uses a GPT of some sort at this point, tbh. There is no reason whatsoever using Google’s ML translation or ChatGPT’s ML translation should make any bit of difference to people who are actually upset over this if they have given any thought whatsoever to their concerns.
Effectively, this has been an ongoing initiative across DoTs for a long while now. The issue is that it’s a hodgepodge approach baked piecemeal into various grants and other programs. But, yeah, digital, vendor agnostic, secure transit infrastructure is always on a lot of DOT folks’ minds.
