You’d think that would enrage their base, but not only will they have enough power not to care by then, but they’ll probably propagandize their base into thinking it’s a good thing.

Unless you have other ideas. The only other one I can think of is a general strike. Shutting the country completely down until our demands are met. But that requires the type of solidarity you wouldn’t even see in a functional society, which we are not. So that’s not a realistic option.
