  • I know you said not clean, but Claude and other LLMs with this ability can and do still hallucinate even when researching. You can have it give you direct source links (not just the attributes that it gives by default) with explicit instructions to quote the exact finding, word for word, and sometimes it will suddenly tell you that it was made up and not actually in the attributed page. Not every time, but it’s something to be very careful with.

Google’s own LLM struggles with this issue as well.

  • We really should be slowing down and looking at the effects of AI. It has too much potential to fuck everything up to not think about it a bit, especially if recursive self-improvement is on the horizon.

This is Anthropic’s entire marketing strategy: get people thinking that LLMs can do more than they actually can through fear. This is what they constantly do and have done for at least the last two years. They also tend to stretch or bury the truth in their “studies” with these goals in mind.

Fear, especially of the unknown, is very powerful. If you fear it the way they want you to, that feeling will convince you that the LLMs are going to take over any day now, and once enough people think that, it pumps Anthropic’s valuation.

I do agree that we should slow down, but not necessarily because of any recursion (they claim they can already do this with “agents”, another term they stole to make LLMs seem more capable). I think we should stop because it’s a huge bubble, and the more we pump into it the louder the pop will be. Not only that, but is a monumental waste of resouces, all to generate half-baked slop most of the time.

  • Oh look, it’s like the 13th cm0002 spam account that I’m blocking, no exaggeration. I thought I got them all, especially because cm0002 claimed elsewhere that they would only use “a few” to repost and has told several users just that. They make it impossible to block their accounts on purpose. They don’t ban evade, they block evade, and when confronted give some line about “promoting smaller instances”, even though they never post to their account’s home instance.

And before they reply with their bs about only reposting .ML content, they repost shit from all instances. If they truly cared only about reposting .ML content, they wouldn’t need almost two dozen accounts to do so.

This is the sixth time this has been posted somewhere on the fediverse, and yet, cm0002 posted it again.
