  • They don’t come around anymore, but I used to say that I was disfellowshipped/excommunicated, whichever was fitting for whatever religion they were selling. If they ask why, which they basically never do, just say “I’d really rather not talk about it, if you don’t mind…”

They don’t actually want to waste time talking to people who were kicked out of the church for “bad behavior”, and in many cases aren’t even allowed to, so they blacklist your address.

No soliciting signs typically do the job, too, though.

I’ve had it with shoddy c ports on various devices, including a phone (thankfully had wireless charging also). The connection pin thingy breaks off pretty easily, and causes the same issue you described for several weeks/months ahead of the actual breakoff, where it has to be in exactly the right position (and wiggling it to hit the right position obviously exacerbates the problem).

I’ve actually bought some magnetic chargers for the more fragile electronics, so I never have to put strain on the port…

  • Iirc part of the reason for sterile releases is to shift the populations. So for example they release them for malaria-carrying sub-populations but leave intact clean populations to fill in the niche.

There’s also some experimentation with releasing fully fertile specimens that have a specific gut bacteria which makes them unable to carry some of the diseases impacting humans, and is passed down to the young.

Personally, I prefer things I don’t understand because I don’t have to mentally deal with whatever bullshit they are saying. I can sing it a thousand times without ever thinking too much about it because I know the sounds and not the meaning of the words.

I can belt out a ton of Japanese or Russian music, because I started listening to help my language learning (classes, not self-guided), but I don’t actually understand the songs. I “know the words”, but that’s it.

  • I feel the same way. I can do the advanced on all counts but I’m super out of shape as well… Not like “round is a shape” out of shape, just generally unfit.

Being able to do them once is not that hard if you don’t weigh a lot (small people find this sort of thing a lot easier because it’s using body weight as resistance) and have previously built those muscles, but that means exactly nothing about actual overall fitness in the here and now.

Interesting. My app allows me to have them separate, so I see all the up separate from all the down, and always have. I refused early on to use anything that combines them because I want the full picture of engagement.

If you use an app, check through the settings and see if it’s supported (all the iOS apps I tested have it). Idk about web, might be something to look into tho since the data is all there, so it’s just be a matter of handling.

  • That’s exactly how I’d describe them too. I used one one time. It was so much worse inside than it looked from outside. You don’t even need to spark your own, just walk in and inhale a couple times, and leave coughing your ass off.

I’d rather go back through security every time (probably because I used to work at an airport that didn’t have smoking areas, so had to go through security multiple times a day).

When I had longer layovers (more than 2 hours), like the 13 hour one when I shipped out from basic, I just hung out outside looking homeless for the duration, because it beat going through security.

(Don’t smoke kids; I quit years ago and it was never good)
