Not long ago I was waiting for some food and there was this mom with her young daughter and a baby boy in a stroller. Dutch country side kinda place.

She seemed stressed, maybe depressed even. Well the boy and I waved at each other and made faces for a while, all that usual fun stuff. Big blue curious eyes, such a fresh perspective on everyday things.

Then she picked up her phone and spoke Ukrainian. And it just hit me so hard what was really happening. That his father must be going through hell right now, and all the anxiety she must be going through. He’s too young to understand. It was hard not to cry.

I just keep thinking of all the miracles that happened all over Europe after ww2. One day Ukraine will be even more beautiful than it used to be.
