The achievement came after she won the Qatar Classic, a PSA Platinum tournament.
On Monday, nineteen-year-old Egyptian Amina Orfi became the new world number one in squash, the youngest player to reach the top of the rankings in the sport’s history.

The achievement came after she won the Qatar Classic, a PSA Platinum tournament, where she defeated her compatriot Hania El Hammamy in five sets. Orfi also won the World Championship at just 18 years old, and weeks later she conquered the British Open.
She is also a four-time junior world champion (2022-2025), an unprecedented record, and part of Egypt’s squash hegemony, which dominates both the women’s and men’s categories, with Mostafa Asal leading the way since 2023.
“Becoming world champion and number one in the same year is amazing. It’s been a dream since I was little,” Orfi declared after her victory in Qatar. Her father, a doctor, introduced her to squash at the age of five and provided her with the means to develop her talent.

Orfi draws inspiration from figures like Nour El Sherbini, the most decorated player in history, and tennis player Serena Williams, whose aggressiveness and will to win she admires.
She also considers footballer Mohamed Salah a role model, valuing the unwavering mentality that allowed him to succeed in Europe despite initial difficulties in Egypt.
With squash making its debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, Orfi dreams of winning gold at the age of 21 and becoming the first Olympic champion in the discipline.
