That one in 1 Timothy I see get thrown around all the time. I used to attend a class taught by a man and his wife, but his wife never did any studying or real teaching because she wasn’t allowed to teach men. My mom gave a training at a church, and they were originally going to tell her not to come back because she was a woman teaching men, but several people within the church begged them to let her continue. She was teaching about parenting techniques based on brain science and proven methods that contradicted the traditional view held by most evangelicals. They challenged her saying “Now should we listen to science or the Bible?” I hate this town.
I don’t get why it’s more popular than Corinthians - they’re both New Testament, so it would be unchristianly not to follow them both. I get why Deut 22:5 gets ignored, that’s Old Testament, but why should anyone get a pass for Cor 11:5-6?
Yeah. Our class had a whole thing about the women speaking in church thing. The conclusion was that women should not disrupt church by speaking, and neither should men but women do it more often. The class was not great. We briefly mentioned the head coverings one time. I think they were just like “That was a cultural norm we don’t care about anymore.” The cherry-picking was real. I eventually decided if my teachers are going to cherry pick things, so will I. Now I can be gay and trans, and if you have a problem, I’ve got a lot of your own shit ready to throw back in your face.
Understandable, honestly, somehow I managed to extend that to more of the teachings than desired, though. Apparently that wasn’t supposed to be the takeaway. Oops.
Not sure what those numbers mean I’ll have to ask my preacher
If she gives you any flak, ask about Cor 14:34-35 and 1Tim 2:12 too.
Or if your preacher isn’t woke enough for that, perhaps ask about what Tit 1:9 says about those who oppose the word of god.
