Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine (Virginia) has suggested that lawmakers may sue President Donald Trump if he attempts to “restart” the U.S. war on Iran — a threat that comes as the war appears to have amped up in recent days. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate have passed War Powers Act resolutions intended to restrict Trump from continuing the war (although the Senate voted to…

Oh my, a law suit? Isn’t that a little aggressive? How about a strongly worded letter? /s
What would a lawsuit even do? Would it jail him? Probably not. Are they going to fine him? Even if they did that it would be negligible.
Injunction to stop it until the sc rules on it and since he’s been a twat to them as well lately he’s not likely to succeed in court even if his argument to continue the war wasn’t glaringly idiotic.
I think this is ultimately demonstrating that the War Powers Act is toothless. What’s SCOTUS ultimately going to do? Even if they rule the war is illegal (quite a hope), they’re not going to order troops who are actively under fire to stand down. They’re not going to order actively deployed US troops to retreat from the combat zone, leaving troops in a situation where they have contradicting orders during an active shooting war.
At best, they would issue a ruling saying the war is illegal and ordering the president to end the war as quickly as possible. At which point, Trump would respond saying, “that’s exactly what I was already doing.” And ultimately nothing would change.
Mmm nope. Sc has it’s own contempt system and the solution would be personal fines against Trump himself ideally large enough to kill the like 3 billion he’s made in office. Ie. Criminal contempt for the office and civil contempt for the president which would bypass the sitting president issue since it’s civil not criminal.
He already did. Iran and the US have traded attacks for 2 days already.
