Real talk, bicameral hypothesis always felt to me like a way to sneak colonial apologia in through a back door. “No, it’s okay that we’re killing these natives for their land. They’re not technologically sophisticated, so they’re not really people.”
It’s also just historically nonsense. The epic of Gilgamesh, a thousand years before the Odyssey and the so-called development of conciousness, clesrly shows humans as thinking beings with their own internal voice. In literature no less! There are cpuntless examples of this from across the world.
