    An app I used to use was kicked off of Github due to contributions from a user in a sanctioned nation. Rather than highlight the absurdity of these sanctions measures (since the app is 100% free and not materially helping any nation in any way), it lead to some users hosting a witch hunt where they tried to guess which contributor triggered the action and which nation they are from (or that they were in when they submitted their PR).

    Every time I hear about US sanctions and how they can impact third-party nations who interact with sanctioned entities, I am bewildered. I don’t understand how this can be accepted and normalized internationally. The US holds a monopoly over many modern necessary services and can cut off anyone it wants for any reason. It’s absurd.
