I met some who were very nice, seemed very rational, didn’t even come off as “culty” as their particular Trot party is “known” to be. I mean, yeah, ideologically they’re not quite right, but like, more people working against capitalism, who at least understand and agree with what Lenin said, is a good thing, right? Sectarianism is silly and left unity between Marxist tendencies is important to get to the point of revolution and then sorting out our differences, right?

The ones I talked to seemed to be mostly MLs and syndies throwing in with the org that exists, and did indeed know what Marxism-Leninism is. Couldn’t actually tell me why they put so much energy into their party newspaper beyond “well, Lenin said to do it”, though. But then, I don’t think most Trots could. One of them was barely eighteen, history of family conflict over being a leftist and clearly threw in with the RCP because anything’s better than no support network in that situation, and they usually meet in a room on the local college campus. That whole chapter being young baby leftists with good intentions, seems 100% spot on analysis. I’m seriously worried for some of those kids if that org is as terrible as some folks say.
