The How it Should Have Ended series started off with releasing 3 videos on the 30th of June, 2005.

  • How The Matrix Revolutions Should Have Ended
  • How Saving Private Ryan Should Have Ended
  • How Star Wars Episode IV Should Have Ended

This was before YouTube was owned by Google and before users could even subscribe to channels. YouTube had only just barely started hosting videos at this time.

This episode is one of those first 3 that were published to the internet. Originally it was published to the official website: HowItShouldHaveEnded.com and it quickly went viral.

The official YouTube channel was started a little later in 2007 where additional videos have continued to be published since then.

The truth is the Lucas was tinkering with the script and story throughout the process. Destroying Alederan came late in production, after they shot the scenes of Luke and Leia talking after Obi-Wan died. That’s why Leia doesn’t seem concerned her whole world is gone.

Also, we don’t know how long the DeathStar can go between shots. The video assumes it’s a rapid fire weapon, but it looks like it might take minutes, if not hours to recharge.

It’s probably based on the deathstar blowing ships up in ROTJ, but that would’ve been negligible power compared to blowing up a planet.
