since lemm.ee is slated to be gone soon, does anyone know of any other instances with similar policies regarding defederation? i’ve always loved how i can follow communities basically wherever from here. it’s why i chose here over elsewhere. i just wanna be able to curate my own feed, but most big instances seem to have all these complicated beefs that mean i’d lose access to some communities if i moved there.
lemm.ee was the best and why i stayed on lemmy. this stinks. but so long and thanks for all the fish
Come to hexbear.net! We aren’t a bunch of scary online tankie, we will answer questions asked in good faith, and most of us do real political organizing! We also have the best emotes of any instances.
it is literally my birthday so come on over 2 hexbear
hexbear is fun and all, but i’d rather just visit. too many other places defederate from ya’ll, for reasons which are quite beyond my ken.
and happy birfday! 🎉
When I posted there in good faith all I got were death threats.
Doesn’t seem to be the case, looks like you got into one fight regarding electoralism but you’ve even been upvoted on Hexbear in numerous other occasions.
I guess several people saying they would kill me if they ever met me irl, and claiming their statements were “real, actionable threats” is just a typical online fight in a healthy community.
I didn’t see any of that when glancing through your comments on Hexbear, mind providing an example with the context?
I prefer an instance that is unaligned in the lemmy civil war between the auth left and left libs. Using a hexbear, 'grad or ml account would instantly brandmark me in literally any conversation whilst most pure lib instances censor auth left content.
Overall I prefer to get both sides opinions and then make my own unaligned one
The struggle with such a standpoint is that both Marxists and Liberals have (to a varying degrees) coherent systems of values and understandings. For Marxists, as an example, Dialectical and Historical Materialism is the baseline, while liberals tend to be more idealist and deny aspects of class struggle. If you agree with either premise, then other conclusions necessarily follow.
Plus, I don’t really think labeling Marxists as “auth” makes sense. All states are “auth,” as all states are instruments of class oppression, but the class in charge is what makes the biggest impact on how society is run. Liberalism is “auth” as the bourgeoisie rules, Marxism is “auth” as the proletariat rules. It is only by abolishing class that the state can be abolished, and class can only be abolishef by sublimating all forms of property ownership into common, public ownership.
Either way, tangent aside, I recommend finding instances that match your interest, rather than strictly broad federation. Mander.xyz is a great example of an instance based on science, but it also has broad federation. Check Join-Lemmy.
I agree with the points you make. Of course both Marxism and Liberalism is auth to a degree but I think that both the council republic and the single party state are both more directly auth whilst liberal systems tend to be more indirectly auth - through influencing the media &
corruption“LoBbYiSm”.Thanks for the mander tip, I might decide between mander and .zip since .zip has broad federation too and multiple frontends and was also recommended a lot.
What do you mean by “directly auth?” If people have a greater degree of political freedom in one party proletarian states than in multiparty states where the bourgeoisie is in control, it seems freedom is greater for more people in the proletarian states. I think the whole “auth” concept is flawed to begin with.
By directly auth I mean that someone with a political interest only needs to have ties to high class party members. By indirectly auth I mean that the same person needs to have ties + smh needs to make sure that the person / person’s party actually gets reelected the way Musk has been doing it in the US and the way he has tried to do so in multiple European countries.
And as someone born into a GDR family I could add something to freedom but yeah. We were loyal enough and had someone in the party so we had more freedom than most GDR families… And tbh, life - as long as you were loyal - was, according to my fam, pretty chill with people being nicer because of less stress to compete for shit. They even say now they want socialism back.
The thing is I can be disloyal now, say that I vote for the communists even tho I live in a capitalist society and face no reprocussions even without having political connections. Travel wherever the fuck I want - to North Korea if I want to. So yeah. I want this system of “who tf cares” but without the greedy capitalists and the fucking corrupt opportunists but yeah. I mean the average middle class Chinese can visit capitalist nations so they fixed that problem.
Tbh I have been writing and thinking how to explain myself for so long that my adhd ass brain lost track of what I initially wanted to say…
Ah tldr something like: if peops have the freedom of movement and speech a communist system would be pretty chill but in the past freedom of movement was connected to having someone in the party - at least in the GDR
Hexbear houses some of the worst people I have ever experienced on Lemmy. Do not go there unless you are truly toxic.
Hexbear is friendly and cool.
Strong disagreement there. Hexbear users frequently brush against liberals and anti-Communists, but as an actual space it’s not toxic at all, in my experience. If you consider yourself a Marxist or Anarchist, you’ll probably fit in well, if not then you won’t, simple as that.
The real thing is that lemm.ee has very minimal defederation, but Hexbear uses defederation quite deliberately to curate a safe space for marginalized comrades, and doesn’t tolerate liberalism, so it isn’t a replacement for lemm.ee outright, just a good option.
This you?
I think they were talking about people like that, people like you.
Yep, someone was being genuinely racist, talking about how Chinese people live in filth and their infrastructure is held up with duct tape, that they eat fake meat and fake tofu, etc. There’s a difference between critique of the CPC and veering off into racism, which is why I reported the comments, and then got banned for it for a day. This was the comment:
The majority of the comment is baseless chauvanism of Chinese people themselves, not their government, such as when they say that the “national sport is to harrass other nations” or that “they eat fake tofu, fake meat, etc.” There were many other comments on that thread that weren’t thinly veiled racism, but still attacked the CPC, which I didn’t report, I reported this person specifically because the comment uses “criticism of the CPC” as a veil for racism. Even if the mods disagreed, reporting three such comments from the same person is not report abuse.
If you scroll to the bottom of my modlog, you can sse that I got banned from playstation@lemmy.zip for “racism.” What happened, was the moderator made a rant about DEI in video games, and I called them out on it. They threw a tantrum, banned me, then deleted their account, leaving playstation@lemmy.zip unmoderated and dead.
The point is, don’t trust the modlog too much, if no context is linked. Comment removals are trustworthy, ban reasons need more investigation if they aren’t accompanied by examples. In this case, I’d say the moderators actually outted themselves by punishing me for reporting content that can absolutely be seen as racist, even if they disagreed. They could have ignored the reports, but chose to say that it’s a bannable offense to report this content.
I chose lemmy.blahaj.zone since most of the communities I participate in are there and they have been nothing but kind to me. I highly recommend it for other queer people who want to have a peaceful community free of transphobia.
why not just go back to reddit since the site culture seems 1:1 exact
