Eugen Leviné, assassinated on this day in 1919, was a German revolutionary communist who briefly led the Bavarian Council Republic, giving luxury apartments to the homeless and factories to the workers during his short reign in power.
Eugen Levine was born to wealthy Jewish parents in St Petersberg, Russia, and became exposed to radical politics after moving to Heidelberg, Germany at a young age. In 1905, Leviné returned to Russia to participate in the failed revolution of 1905 against the Tsar and was arrested and exiled to Siberia.
After World War I ended, Leviné joined the Communist Party of Germany and helped to create a socialist republic in Bavaria. Leviné eventually rose to power as the communists assumed control of the government.
He attempted to pass many reforms, such as giving the more luxurious flats to the homeless and giving workers control and ownership of factories. Leviné also planned reforms for the education system and to abolish paper money, but did not get the chance to complete either.
The German Army, assisted by the right-wing Freikorps paramilitary invaded and quickly conquered Munich on May 3rd, 1919. Leviné himself was arrested and shot by firing squad in Stadelheim Prison.
Ex-Soviet agent Whitaker Chambers cited Leviné as an inspirational figure, writing “During the Bavarian Council Republic in 1919, Leviné was the organiser of the Workers’ and Soldiers’ Soviets. When the Bavarian Council Republic was crushed, Leviné was captured and court-martialed. The court-martial told him: “You are under sentence of death.” Leviné answered: ‘We Communists are always under sentence of death.’”

For me personally; Star Wars and related woke but still corporate media have a level of removal from actual events that allows me to get through it without crying. I can’t watch Battle of Algiers. It’s too much. Like basically any story about real world struggle, even if it’s pretty fictionalized, has me ugly crying these days. : (
That’s exactly why I recommend them. They also get me crying. I might be a little too depressed to go full ugly crying for it, last thing that made me go that way was watching Gaza Fights for Freedom right after Oct 7th when it started setting in how utterly devoid of humanity capital is.
They really are pieces of media that show the power of art to transport us to see the world through different eyes and make us immediately recognize that we are not alone, the mountain we climb has been climbed before.

The way star wars is is that there’s a good one (a new hope) and then there’s a gooder and more militant one (Empire) and then there is a later gooder and even more militant one (Revenge) and then an even more militant one (Rogue One) and then a most militant one where John Star War looks directly in to the camera and says “Go outside and shoot a police officer with a light saber”.

They’ll still torture you. Part of the point of torture is outright terrorism. It’s one thing to die for the cause, even die horribly, but torture is different. Another part is - They just write down all the shit you say and cross reference with what other torture victims and intel sources have said. It doesn’t matter if it’s 99% bullshit, they think, because if three different guys say the same thing under torture then that’s something they’ll follow up on. The torturers don’t really care that it’s useless and tghat even in the very very rare times where it is useful it’d be a lot easier and more reliable to just be friendly and ask for information.
I would spill the beans, but I would also just start saying shit I have no clue about hoping it would make them stop. Sure I’ll tell you the nuclear codes, I will tell you where they staged the moon landing, I’ll tell you the recipe for souffle just stop.

Sometimes that works but typically people spread out and smoke on both ends of the bus stop, or people will be smoking as they walk around.
The wind blows the shit around as well, it doesn’t really take much of it to start the headache going.
what if you put up an official-looking SMOKING AREA sign at one end of the bus stop (or a little bit away from the bus stop)
Why are smokers/vapers so attracted to doorways and bus stops.
Shelter and they’re not allowed to stand directly in front of your workspace chain smoking in to your face anymore.
Like they huddle together for warmth in odd places because the entire world used to belong to them.
It makes sense that any place that is convenient to smoke that also permits you to smoke, will also be a place thats convenient for anyone to be at or pass by.
Can’t really solve that unless you can only smoke in inconvenient spots by law.
