A Half-Life 2 mod has been coded to block certain YouTubers, who will see the first-person shooter crash, and an error that reads: "STOP talking SH1T about us".
Reposting my comment from another thread because it needs to be made clear:
Those mod devs are absolute assholes.
As per the decompiled code, the game will refuse to load in certain cases with the message “Upgrade your PC, the current hardware is just ridiculous.” I can understand not wanting to field support requests from extremely outdated hardware, but being condescending and not even giving players the option to try playing it…
And while the other guy may not be a Russian (at least he doesn’t admit it) he’s still a pretty awful person. One of his most recent post replies is talking about how great killing LGBT people would be, and how he’d be for that since it would “destroy the LGBT in small parts” and somehow lead to “fully destroying LGBT”.
Yeah there are horrible people everywhere, where you live doesn’t have as much correlation with how much of an awful person you are as some people might think. These people aren’t awful because of their nationality but because they are awful disgusting people.
I used to help test Gmod mods and this was common to find. Sometimes the author would even try to embed an obfuscated check for their own steamid to give them God rights over the multiplayer game session.
We would collect those steam IDs and add them to the ban list. And often switch mods all together.
That’s honestly stupid of them to try that, they should know they’d get banned quickly for doing that. It’s not like we can’t figure it out pretty easily even if they try to obfuscate it, Steam emulators exist that can be used to find that kind of behavior even if you couldn’t decompile to see it.
I think it’s different when it’s Garry the creator of the game, versus some random modder giving themselves permissions over a game simply because they made that mod. In the case of the random modder many would see it as cheating.

“You are too poor for this mod, peasant”, basically.

Why am I not surprised that they’re Russian 😅

Not surprising whatsoever.
To be clear I did meet some nice people when I visited Russia briefly, there are horrible people everywhere, not just in Russia 😅

I think living in a place or situation that’s more difficult plays a role, it’s a lot easier to be kind when everyone around you is kind too.

Garry himself has that in gmod. There is an achievement that’s “played with Garry”.
