  • If everyone is replacing low level jobs with AI in order to pump next quarters numbers, they are gonna be fucked in 5-10 years when there is a skilled labour shortage - those very skills learned and developed while doing the lower level jobs.

This is a gargantuan gamble on AI being able to progressively replace more an more complicated jobs, and stay in line with this curve as the skill ages out of the population.

Oh, and nobody will be able to pay for the services provided by these companies because nobody will have money because they can’t get jobs because all the low skill jobs are done by AI, and nobody can develop skills because there is no entry to industries/careers via low skilled jobs.

Replacing jobs with AI is so fucking stupid.

  • “immigration bad” is easier to attach scary numbers and stoke up fear.

It’s easier to have the media cycle showing bad things immigrants do (which - imo - is likely statistically inline with the general population. But because it was an immigrant that did it, it has extra biases attached), than feel good stories of how immigration helps a country & economy.

The fact that immigration is generally a net positive is hard to describe in soundbites and catchy headlines.

So the right makes scary statements and flashes scary numbers and promises to do something about it. And it’s difficult to nail down exactly what they are going to do about it.
And, of course, that single issue party doesn’t run the government for the people so you end up with a bunch of bullshit harmful policies being enacted.
It ends up being the message of the policy that drives the news cycle, not the policies themselves.

While more progressive parties talk about equal rights, better taxation, more social services. And everyone talks about money trees or politicises medical issues.
So it’s the policy that gets raked over the coals, instead of the message of the policy being the story.

And finally, the majority of news companies are owned/run by right wing (or at least right leaning) millionaires/billionaires.

  • I’ve always been amazed how the data processing consent has morphed incot cookie banners.
And I’ve seen Devs argue that tracking & data processing without cookies doesn’t need consent.

It’s always been about data processing and user privacy.
Cookies were just the “plastic to paper straws” that placates but annoys the masses, making it seem like progress. Even though the tracking and data processing still happens, your user profile is still traded, and nothing really changes.

  • Trying to disable the windows key hotkey that opens the start menu, so the game The Witness can pause stuff, minimize, open the start menu and release the block on the windows key (IE do a more controlled start menu hotkey, instead of having windows rudely interrupt everything and break the game).

Started with a 5 second hang whenever a debug breakpoint was reached. The dev started digging into the issue.

Games use RawInput to get better mouse interactions, but that breaks the Microsoft recommended way of disabling windows key (as all input goes through RawInput instead of whatever the other windows API is).
In the documentation for RawInput, it specifically states the flag to disable the windows key doesn’t work. So the Dev that was debugging the issue didn’t try it. Until the next day when they had the realisation that MSDN windows API docs are garbage, tried the supposedly not-working flag and it actually did work.

The linked article is quite a good read, actually.
I had to use one of the mirrors in the SO answer

    Edit:

  • Sure. I mean, prices will go up because a public company cannot operate at a loss. They just haven’t gone up yet.

But it also shows that Tesla underestimated the claims their cars would generate.
And it’s Tesla that has all the information they could possibly want.
So either Tesla drivers are particularly bad, all the fancy tech isn’t helping (or isn’t helping enough), or the cars are the liability.

Could be as simple as bad business planning.

It certainly justifies other insurance companies charging more for a Tesla.

  • It could just do with a UI refresh and maybe some added functionality

    That is actually huge ask.
Mumble works in an “engineer brain” kinda way. Cause it has been made by engineers making sure the underlying tech is available to be used in so many scenarios.
Making it work in a “user” kinda way is a huge change.
And it would either make the code really difficult to maintain, or would isolate the power users by restricting the flexibility of mumble.
The fact that mumble is FOSS is absolutely fantastic!

Feel free to fork the project and refresh the UI.
Or sponsored programmers to do this. If there is actually a market, you would be able to overtake mumble. You can even start from their codebase, the license is very permissive (just make sure you credit mumble!)

Does the right use independent media?
Or do their billionaire pals that have exploited humanity for decades just own the mainstream media… so they don’t have to bother with independent media: cause they have dozens of not hundreds of full time staff figuring out how to increase viewership.

    It’s not really a question.
    It’s just how it is
