Lemmy.world Support@lemmy.world•September 2025: Updates for the .worlds and call for donations
0·3 months agoThe 1700/mo is for all instances we host, with around 30k active users/mo. (If every active user would pay 1 euro per year, it would cover the costs) But it can’t be compared to Reddit. Reddit has employees. Employees cost more than infra. If I would pay myself and all the volunteers for the work we put in, the cost would be at least 10 times what it is now.

11·3 months agoThe FHF is the foundation owning all instances (https://fedihosting.foundation/hosted/). So the costs are for running all the .world instances. The contribution to FHF is the costs for running the non-profit foundation itself.
The Patreon was setup when mastodon.world was the only instance… haven’t renamed it yet.

0·4 months agoYou should enter: profile/tehankorage Not the entire URL. Did you do that?
I did register writefreely.world planning to host that one day, but I need some more selfhosting nerds to help out running all these instances :-) The foundation is now already running a few dozen Fedi instances :-D
I like Vivaldi, which is Chromium based. I also like Safari for the speed. Difficult to choose between the two. The feature that Vivaldi has and Safari hasn’t, which I’m missing in Safari, is tab auto-refresh.

3·2 years agoI run a pixelfed and misskey on the same server, and used to run a mastodon besides that. No issues. (I use docker)

Ahh yes I meant as opposed to Twitter and Facebook. But I worded it badly 😁
For moderators surely Mastodon. For admins too… For users: that’s a taste-thing. I’m not a developer so can’t say…
Yeah somewhere between twitter and facebook clone, more like Mastodon. But open-source and federated, like Lemmy.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•[solved] What is this new Lemmy.world icon we see since yesterday ?English
132·2 years agoWell I’m the owner of lemmy.world, and I’m Dutch. But still I know what Thanksgiving is, and many users are from the US, so why not?
But I do agree we should also feature days like the Trans day of Remembrance. Maybe we could create a community-created list of special days?
Depends on what sort of invoices. For my invoices for billable hours, I use Kimai
