“It’s not the volts that kill you, it’s the amps.” Has got to be my most hated slogan

I use 2k a month in the summer, but i know its my hvac unit. On the winter or spring months i use 1200.
I don’t have solar but i do have two electric cars and 4 gaming PCs in a 4 person house.

01·1 month agoYou need something line this to prevent backfeeding. The plug and plays can’t do this without a meter device.

The one someone buys on Amazon for cheap and install himself with no knowledge on how to install them on an older US home with 15 A breakers… At least a new home will have a lot to built on after the fire.

02·1 month agoGermany uses 230v systems, while most homes in the US uses 120v. Big difference in the average amperage though the wires, by double. A 400w solid solar plug and play there only adds 1.3A to the system we’re that would add 3.3a to ours. And on common 15A outlets that’s a lot added. If you have a 1800watt microwave or window AC system on that same circuit it will draw over the rated amps on the circuit. In Europe it wouldn’t.

04·1 month agoI have. The plug in play systems are incredibly dangerous for both the home and the grid is not installed correctly. The biggest thing is killing linemen from the backfeed, putting dirty power on the grid, or catching your house on fire.
The most common way people add these is on an existing circuit, which can overload the wires downstream to a high load device causing a fire. They should only be installed into a dedicated circuit for this reason, and it’s your are at that point you might as well install an acually full solar system.
These small ones that i would consider safe for in use circuits would be like 200watt systems, and at that point you are only saving $30/month at Best. It’s not worth the hassle.
As far as carbon footprint, the battery systems are the biggest contributor, and they are lucky to last 5 years on cheap systems. The panel itself will be carbon friendly faster a few years so there is no knocking that part.

08·1 month ago“it makes me feel good” is the only reason to do this. Then don’t research how panels are made or the true carbon offset times.
All this to potentially start a fire. Sounds like a win.
Last quater the government paied more in interest than they took in from income taxes.
You’re income tax doesn’t pay for anything but interest on the debt at this point.

0·1 month agoThat isn’t the point of the initiative. No where do they say it should be buy once and playable forever. They just want you to be wanted to play the game forever if the developers decide not to continue the service.

1·1 month agoThis isn’t true, because billionaires don’t have a billion dollars.
I do. YouTube premium is cheap, i can add 5 other other people to my plan and they all the benefits, i get ad free music in my car (i cancelled XMradio because YouTube is better) and all my devices like my phone, car, smart tv, computer get ad free shows.
It’s a way better service than netflix because Netflix didn’t let be add people outside my house. And it’s way better than Amazon prime, because that chat extra flfor ad free but you still get ads!
I’ll support any company that gives me a cheap ad free plan that i can share with the family outside my house with no issues.

Because amps is the results of volts and resistance. It’s the volts that kill you, amps are just the result.
