Heh, certainly the tone of their material is toward “pavement princess” usage, but a hair dryer does pull just about as much current as you could expect from a standard outlet, more than many power tools, more than some microwaves. Sure, if they showed a higher end electric welder than that would be more impressive, but no way are they going to take things that far.

It it can power a hair dryer, it could power a circular saw. Whether it would be suitable to get to work sites that demand a bit more off-road capability… I’m guessing no.

I can’t blame them too much, they went with the ‘F150 for your professional needs, just electric’ and it didn’t ultimately pan out that well. So they are going more city truck.

Yeah, the Maverick misses the mark by being roughly the right size, but a teeny-tiny bed for the sake of the crew cab. A car that begrudgingly has a token bed. People have gotten surprisingly good use out of the tiny bed and going to all manners of awkward tailgate-down shenigans to carry things that don’t fit, but it’s awkward.

The “more passenger space than a RAV4” makes it clear they are going to have an even bigger cab than a maverick, so that’s a worrying sign. However, since they seem to also be obsessed with “you can fit your surfboards in the bed”, then they may have at least done a mid-gate, and that could get me the sort of truck experience I’d need, with the compromise of being open to the weather to get full bed length. Might suck for trying to haul stuff into super dusty worksites where you’d probably not want to be open to the elements too long, but for me that might be an acceptable compromise (I do have to carry enough passengers to usually need the passenger space, and on the occasion I need to carry something long, I generally have a nice day of weather and don’t go anywhere too filthy). Would be better than my current situation where I have to rent a trailer anytime I want to do anything mildly significant to tow with an SUV.

One of the rumors has me particularly wondering about this point… Allegedly no low-voltage battery. Low voltage is 48v (fine) but not even a 48V, just pulling from the traction battery. So the gigantic battery pack is now constantly running instead of being disengaged most of the time it is sitting.

I guess I haven’t heard anything suggesting EVs have safety issues more often when charging, so maybe it’s ok, but would want some assurances that there are good reasons why they skip a discrete low voltage battery when everyone else seems like they need to.

Sounds like it will be a poor road tripper, but on the other hand, I have used a DC charger exactly once in three years of EV ownership, so I personally am not going to fixate on that. Of course I have about 270 miles of range so a shorter range could change that equastion…

If the pickup is at a lower height, less ostentatious/dangerous grill, and shorter than 200 inches, I won’t begrudge someone a pickup compared to an SUV.

The release? Seemingly mostly for the Ford marketing folks that think the customers care more about what they name a car and pictures of random people doing stuff more than any actual actionable information about the vehicle.

A small-ish electric pickup? People who wanted cheaper and/or smaller than the current wave of EV pickups. Especially a lot of folks that installed EVSE in their garage for their cars and full-size pickups frequently don’t fit in garages.

Slate is in the same area and has quite a bit of interest, despite being yet another unproven manufacturer. Depending on the details of the truck, this could take advantage of the same niche but with a more familiar brand and potentially executing some things better when it comes to truck features. One issue I recall with a colleague’s Tesla was that they got a lot of the ‘boring car stuff’ wrong, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Slate makes some similar mistakes. Particularly I suspect Ford will get the two-row seating/serviceable bed compromise down better than Slate. Though Ford could still flub the size and not fit in my garage while absolutely a Slate could, will have to see. I wish Ford would embrace the “maker” sensibilities that Slate seems to cater towards but they will absolutely fail at that.

Based on the tone of their reveal, I’m not having high hopes for towing. Which would be a shame as I was hoping for a 4,000 pound towing capacity. Clearly targeted at city drivers that aren’t doing a lot of real truck stuff.

Their emphasis on surfboard in the bed tells me they will at least do midgate for more workable bed… At least in fair weather conditions. That might make it ok at hauling wood from the store for projects.

On the carfront, would love for something like a miata, even with a short range.

Well they have been stuffing their covers to obscure the shape, so dont know for sure. Given their bragging about aero, it likely is not as bad as it looks.

One thing I will say is I wager they will have a midgate option, which could promote the bed to vaguely serious compared to a Maverick, in some situations. They have a few times mentioned surfboard in the bed, and double downed in their sort of reveal trailer, where they clearly show it laying down with tailgate up.

May be a decent compromise in a truck market obsessed with crew cabs.

So they directly announced a few features, but nothing people couldn’t have guessed based on what had basically already been said, They did confirm that it was about the same size as a maverick. Most notably they still aren’t saying bed size.

Their flipbook additionally shows a hairdryer plugged into the bed, so a fairly decent wattage out of an outlet back there.

They also show and highlighted surf board in the bed. In a maverick footprint with crew cab this is pretty much absolutely impossible without a midgate, so seems like there will be a midgate option. Midgate would go a long way to making it a more practical truck.

Yet they continue to dismmiss these suggestions as being lies and conspiracy theory.

Because at this point, as far as I can tell, this is still just baseless speculation. It could have been that, but it could have been aliens, we don’t have any actual evidence to base any of it on, hence it being easy to dismiss as a conspiracy theory.

People also need to question how senior homes were mismanaged that causes unnecessary deaths/murder due to neglect.

Same with Nurses and medical staff who suffer due to lack of organization and oversight.

Yes, this is every damn day. Before COVID, during the height of the pandemic, and every day since. None of that is particularly relevant to COVID, Fauci, or vaccines. Profit seeking interests preying on the weak without sufficient repurcussions.

We presume innocence because not one bit of evidence has been presented. Like this accusation that we should have just all gotten infected because ‘everyone knew’ that was better than getting vaccinated. Which goes against mountains of evidence showing that people were way better off with the vaccinne, with the most ‘damming’ credible outcome being that maybe it was a waste of time for people under 20, but only evident with hindsight.

The problem is simply that the pandemic was an embarrassment for Trump, and would have been even if he handled everything right (which he didn’t), but they need to scapegoat someone so they scapegoat Fauci for no apparent reason.

First, Nvidia isn’t on a trajectory to bring cost per token down, that’s not how the finances of a bubble like this works. nVidia is enjoying near monopolistic status, as your choice to ignore options from competitors in your comment illustrates. Even if they had credible evidence that Rubin could reduce the overhead of a hypothetical datacenter by 10 million, the business will probably price it at 12 million more (the “value” of the savings plus the value of being able to brag about offering the latest generation). The cost optimization will only come after the bubble pops.

Incidentally, a significant leap in efficiency could also pop the bubble. The bubble is predicated on all this eventually being very expensive and high margin. If it becomes more accessible without gigantic investment, well the walled garden business won’t stand up. An abundance of supply can pop it just as much as a failure of expected demand. We are talking about the economics of the bubble, and a hypothetical improvement in the merits of the tech does not necessarily map to economic results and in fact commonly is opposed to it.
