“Every time the phone rings I worry that it’s THE call,” said 17-year-old Nelson. “I fear that it’s my dad and he still hasn’t killed himself.

I was like "oohhh shit, the mainstream media is calling them out for using LLM in the headline?!”
Turns out, the actual heading is just “White House Health Report Included Fake Citations”.
They have a few people comment on how LLMs can result in this problem, but still not nearly as dramatic as calling out some bullshit in the headline.

This whole time, people have joked that no one is going around giving away free cocaine and heroin. Turns out, it was cigarettes they were trying to warn us about

I just realized that it bothers me that Slow and Plow don’t rhyme.
Yeah I’ve effectively given up on email at this point. Just Teams me. And don’t say “hey”. Say what the fuck you want.

I was gonna ask you “wtf is vibe coding?” but then figured I should watch the video first.
Best I can tell is you put on some mood lighting, glasses, and music. Then have AI build a program for you. The guy in the video legitimately thinks this is a solution for getting rid of 80% of your software development team.

I got a Minesweeper app for my phone a few months ago with no ads. It’s amazing.
That depends. How many gallons would you say you drink a day?
This made me think of something that happened to a good friend of mine. He’s in his 50s and is one of the most healthy people I know in terms of diet and exercise.
He went to the doctor the other day for a checkup. His doctor made an off the cuff remark about his cholesterol levels being normal, which was fine for a regular person by maybe a little concerning for a person with diabetes.
My friend was like “What do you mean for a person with diabetes?” and the doc responded “You didn’t know you had diabetes?”
They went through my friend’s diet to see what could be the cause. The conversation went like this:
Doc: Do you drink sugary drinks like soda?
Friend: Never.
Doc: What do you eat in a typical day?
Friend: Mostly rice and spinach. And beans too. Honestly most days I forget to eat.
Doc: This doesn’t really check out. Are you sure there’s nothing else you’re eating or drinking?
Friend: Oh… I also usually drink about a gallon of orange juice a day.
So yeah … that’s the story of how my supposedly healthy friend gave himself diabetes by drinking a metric fuckton of OJ.

jballs@sh.itjust.worksto politics @lemmy.world•Donald Trump blames air traffic control problems on Pete ButtigiegEnglish21·1 month agoI posted this on another thread, but thought it was worth sharing here as well.
Heads up this is about to get worse. Republicans recently voted to cut retirement funding for air traffic controllers. By cutting the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) for workers retiring before 62 (all Air Traffic Controllers are required to retire at 56 and are eligible to retire at 50), this is completely fucking over ATCs who continue working by changing their retirement math.
An open secret with ATCs is that they have numerous medical qualifications that they have to maintain to keep working. For example, if they see a doctor about sleep apnea, depression, alcoholism, etc they lose their medical qualification and are forced to take a medical retirement.
So what happens if you’re an ATC in your 40s and the government says “hey you can keep working for the next 10 years and retire without this FERS supplement… Or you can tell your doctor that you snore at night and take an immediate medical retirement right now and get paid more in retirement”?
TLDR; We’re about to have a shit load of Air Traffic Controllers taking medical retirements and these staffing problems are going to explode.
We drive across the country every summer to visit family. Growing up, my parents used to talk about different routes and which one felt faster. Like “you can get off the interstate and take this county road and shave some time off.” But then they’d argue about if it was worth taking a road with a lower speed limit even if it was less distance.
Eventually they tried to impart that wisdom to me and would ask “so which route are you taking?” It took years for them to finally grasp that I just go whatever the way the GPS tells me is faster.
