Problem is that both houses majorities support the lunatic, right now they’ve more or less given him a blank check to operate.

Historically, the two party system has meant that Congress either votes with the presidents wishes or against when it comes to legislation, but Congress doesn’t directly approve/disprove of executive orders. To oppose executive orders, Congress needs to pass laws that override the orders. That wont happen unless the majority becomes convinced they’ll lose elections if they keep supporting trump.

It’ll be up to the Judicial Branch to directly rule for/against this order. But the judicial branch only truly has power so long as the executive complies. We’re close to hitting the test of that power balance on some of his earlier orders.

Fun fact: the law enforcement of the Judicial Branch is technically an agency under the Executive Branch. Not a problem if people are largely operating in good faith with the law, or at least fear repurcussions if they don’t comply… But since Trump doesn’t fear repurcussion, this fun fact may be the oversight that breaks the consitution.

I’d rather have it in my desktop workspace than nested in a web browser, plus it can integrate better with native media API’s for media buttons, notifications, and other items being aware of the audio, which the tidal web app doesn’t do out of the box.

Yep! It’s a good app overall, even has some improvements over what is shipped on macOS.

Tbh, podcasts through a “storefront” is a poor way to experience them. It’s meant to be decentralized via RSS feeds. Tho having some cross-device metadata about what you’ve listened to is definitely helpful.

I’ve been using Pocket Casts for a long time for that more refined experience and ease of use between listening devices. Their new owners are ethically complicated nowadays (Automattic), and the cost for their pro features is a bit high unless you are a podcast fiend (I was grandfathered in from their old mid-2010s pricing scheme that was pay once/own forever), but it’s a good app (for now).

This is great to see. I ended up moving to Tidal from Spotify, and even though there are some nice to have features missing from Tidal (an equivilant to spotify’s sync between devices/speakers as well as a better Android Auto experience), it’s a far superior experience.

Quobuz is also on my radar, but they’ve traditionally lacked in the music catalog space. I need to give them a try again now that it’s been a few years.

That said, Tidal barely has Linux clients and I don’t think I’ve seen much movement for Quobuz on Linux, unless I’ve just missed it.

Some people aren’t a fan of F-droid managing the signing keys and that sometimes F-droid builds/deployments can take a bit. There is an argument for developer-managed signing keys being better than registry-managed signing keys for trust, but that also doesn’t make F-droid “bad”. While I’m not fully versed on it, I think the issue here only applies to the main F-droid repo since other repos might have different policies around builds and signing keys.

Personally, I like the experience of managing my most used apps through Obtanium via the devs git releases, but I only use that if the dev is good about publishing their signing key so it can be verified with AppVerifier. Otherwise, F-droid is safer than running an app installed without verifying the signing key.

Mulch and DDG are not firefox-based

Braus is new to me, tho at a glance looks less capable overall than Junction.

Looks like Junction supports firefox profiles via .desktop entries, so it would also support launching via the private CLI flag (firefox -private-window iirc).

Might be easier to keep up with than modding Braus source code in the long run.

Like other gnome circle apps it heavily encourages flatpak but its available on arch official and other distro package managers.

On android I use URL Check (https://triangularapps.blogspot.com/search/label/UrlChecker?m=1) which has a lot of utility for unshortening snd dropping parameters as well as opening in a specific app. It can open private or normal, too. It is a bit overkill if you only use 1 browser, but tbh, its super useful for revising links before you open them anyway to remove tracking garbage.

I’m not aware of anything this involved and able to do private vs non-private on Linux or macOS, but it would be neat if Browserosourus (macOS) or Junction (Linux) could add those capabilities.

I haven’t looked too much for solutions outside of mobile. Easy enough on desktop to copy a link and paste in a private window. Not as easy on mobile.

The Thunderbird team has talked in the past about bringing Mozilla Send back as more of a feature for Thunderbird files embedded in emails, hence some of the work that’s happening off and on by Mozilla themselves in the original project, some of which has been merged into the project this post is about.

I moved one of my computers to endeavor, but one is still on manjaro and the contrast is kinda hilarious. Manjaro machine always gets funky after updates, it struggles to deal with sleep and hibernation, and it feels slow even when its like 4x as powerful as my EndeavourOS machine.

Idk for sure, but if excalidraw uses canvas then there are a lot more possible machine/OS specific problems that come up. Web browser features that hand tasks off to the GPU have gotten a lot better over recent years but there are still oddities like max shaders for a specific browser/OS/GPU combo that’ll lead to some funny behavior.

I mean, the issues were present and widely reported for several months before Intel even acknowledged the problems. And it wasn’t just media reporting this, it was also game server hosts who were seeing massive deployments failing at unprecedented rates. Even those customers, who get way better support than the average home user, were largely dismissed by intel for a long time. It then took several more months to ship a fix. The widespread nature of the issues points to a major failure on the companies part to properly QA and ensure their partners were given accurate guidance for motherboard specs. Even so, the patches only prevent further harm to the processor, it doesnt fix any damage that has already been incurred that could amount to years off of its lifespan. Sure they are doing an extended warranty, but thats still a band-aid.

I agree it doesnt mean one should completely dismiss the possibility of buying an Intel chip, but it certinally doesn’t inspire confidence.

Even if this was all an oversight or process failure, it still looks a lot like Intel as a whole deciding to ship chips that had a nice looking set of numbers despite those numbers being achieved through a degraded lifespan.

Mull and Fennec are way more obvious android browsers to switch to if Firefox doesnt meet your privacy needs/concerns.
