Telemetry is one reason.
Not having to worry about the service shutting down (Google Reader) is another.
Synced read status is a common one as well.
You may also use it in combination with another service to create RSS feeds for sites that dont have one.
Honestly having it not just get killed like Google Reader is a big chunk of the userbase.
As a dad of 2 small kids… I fully understand your concerns.
I don’t keep good enough track of windows updates to know whether dual boot would be an issue, but there is another option here.
I use some proprietary tools for work that have zero chance of running on Linux. While I have a laptop for work, its… Too slow for most uses other than using it for calls and for doing presentations.
So what I have set up is a few VMs on my proxmox hosts, but you van do this on the same machine if you want with qemu. I have an iso I’ve cleaned up for my use of Win 10, when I need to use an app I have a script that starts the VM, then I RDP into it. Most of them are CPU reliant, though the ones that do need the GPU heavily are in a VM with a pass through for a quadro.
All the benefits of native operation with little to none of the windows headaches. I’m currently testing a few of them that now support 11 on a tiny11 build - less than 20GB in total for the IS and everything I’m running in there.
The “drives” in the VM where everything gets stored are just mapped to the local proxmox host, so even though its writing to my NAS it just shows up as a D drive.
I do recommend having the C drive be an image stored on an ssd though, it’ll be a much better experience than running it off a store on a NAS or something (which works just great for Linux VMs BTW).
Kinda seems like they are already trying to.

We were at the playground and one of the other parents asked me about my bike because my wife told her how much I liked bikes.
He said he’d need to ask me some questions because of a problem, I told him it was easy and described it and said I could bring my tools by (the playground is like two blocks from me, his house is like 4), and he got excited and asked if I knew what sizes he needed and that he would do it.
He just kind of got into it after fixing his son’s bike, bought a set of on the go tools to take with him when they all went for a ride, and he just… Kept going with it lol
So if I’m there doing my thing and another kid needs help he gets his tools out and helps too.
This community has always been really friendly, and I think things like the portable bike repair just adds onto it! I’m hoping to see more stuff like this happen, though I’m not sure what just yet.
We did see a few little libraries put in around town at the parks recently, and I’ve been chatting with others about natural lawns, so we’ll see where it goes next!
Its fun! And I show the kids and parents what I’m doing, which tools I need to do it, etc. Its mostly simple stuff too, like adjusting tension on a brake, set screw for the limit on the derailleur, or patching a tube and pointing out to not forget to check the tire before you put the tube back in. More annoying tubes (or if I’m out of patches) I pop into a small bin to patch later, I have a couple spares for 20" (kid size), including the ones I patched up since the last time.
I also really like that everyone kind of learns that these tubes are for everyone, you won’t necessarily get the same one back, and it really doesn’t matter because you’ve still got a working tire again. Good for the kids to learn that it doesn’t matter, and honestly good for some of the parents to learn that too.
Since I started doing it another dad has been learning too, and started doing the same thing. Though anything he’s not sure about he tells them to ask me.
Plus a really good way to meet a lot of the people in the area, I like doing it

Doable but honestly a pretty awful idea. Remember that they share a data bus, and have a low write endurance. About all its good for (aside from toying around with a silly sort of fun idea) is as a high speed spot for temporary data.
I set one up as a concept for temp storage of images being generated using a gaming engine that were being split and shoved out into multiple video streams. It worked, but there was no chance I’d rely on it (I even had a few of them die during the course of my goofing around).
Also you’ve got bus limits to deal with, so there is a limit to just how useful it can be in the first place. And for longer term storage, you’ve got a lot of risk for finicky behavior. So yeah, just not worth it, but technically doable.

Some do standalone display. Some build the keyboard around the cap as a concept. Some just mish mosh it up. Some try to get a bunch of them from the same series for a more uniform keyboard layout.
Basically all kinds of things. I’ve got a couple, mostly they sit in a case and cover, when I feel like one I may switch out my keycaps. I won’t buy something without a specific layout in mind, personally, but different strokes for different folks.
I think more accurate is “How the Federal Government is Prioritizing Corporate Profits Over People and Planet” - it really doesn’t matter what the subject is (oil/gas/data centers/renewables/pollution causing factories and the regulations meant to limit it), it all ties back to the same problem.

Reaper is great and I have absolutely purchased a license. I’m not often recording music these days, but I will say that anyone I know who is recording music still either uses reaper or is so apple obsessed they use logic pro and won’t glance in the direction of anything that isn’t an Apple product.
Mostly live production recordings for them, though a few do studio recordings as well.
No company behind it, the DSC/DFSG has been around for around 30 years now, its operated through the non-profit SPI for just as long, and important to note it was Bruce Perens who made the first draft of the DSC.
