  • Yeah, the early BF games were where I found servers that were communities. We’d even host events like stunt flying or trick shot challenges where we’d throw a pssword on the server for a few hours so nobody could troll us.

Or for certain days of the week, we’d be running the Desert Combat mod. It was a different time in online gaming.

Another thing I miss from those days is friendly fire. I get why it had to be removed, but it allowed for big, overpowered thing like artillery strikes and naval bombardment that were as likely to wipe your own team as help without coordination.

  • A friend of mine had an abusive stepfather. He mostly beat his wife, until one day he threatened their baby. That night, my friend’s mom shotgunned the stepfather in bed.

Would putting him jail forever have been better? Sure. But it wouldn’t have happened. He’d have been thrown in the drunk tank overnight and be back at it the next morning. If she’d divorced him, he would have fought for custody.

She solved the problem forever. I can’t endorse what she did, but I also won’t judge her.

  • In 2017, she visited with Assad, and then she started saying the US was behind terrorist attacks in Syria. In 2022, she accused the US of helping Ukraine develop bioweapons, and that the invasion of Ukraine by Russia was justified.

She has parroted Russian propaganda for years now, and Russia plays clips of her doing so as “evidence” they were accurate.

And there’s the little detail that in the last few years she’s changed from Democratic Presidential primary contender to far-right Kremlin-backing MAGA troll.

At this point her not being compromised by Russia would be a shock.

  • So your solution is for people to either throw away perfectly-good products (Logitech mice still don’t have USB-C receivers btw), or learn to hack something together?

My laptop from 2018 ago is no thicker than a modern laptop and managed to have 2 USB-A, 2 USB-C, a power adapter port (though it also supports PD), an SD card reader, and a headphone jack.

Now that PD is a better standard and power bricks had no standard, I can see dropping the power port for another Type-C port for a lower-power laptop that can’t draw more power than PD can deliver, but there’s no justification for dropping the other ports that are “still” standards being used by new devices.

Its presence in groundwater is how we discovered it’s good for teeth.

In fact, there used to be so much in some areas,it actually stained the teeth. In Colorado Springs a dentist noticed that the children were developing brown stains on their teeth. In researching it, it was discovered that the “Colorado Brown Stain” was caused by excessive fluoride in the drinking water. But it also lead to the discovery that regions with natural fluoride present but in lower levels than Colorado Springs didn’t have stained teeth, but did have lower levels of tooth decay.

  • Okay. Now, explain the concept of enshitification. And do it using terms that regular folk won’t find crass.

You know how conservatives live in this bubble where they don’t even see their racism because it’s so normalized? We’re interacting within a bubble where everyone has a very high level of technical competence versus the average person, so we fail to understand just how tech illiterate others are.

  • Failing to preserve evidence is sacntionable, even if it isn’t willful destruction. The penalties generally aren’t as stiff, but if the judges accepted “Oopsie, we accidentally destroyed evidence we were required to preserve” as a defense, there would be an incentive to destroy evidence and claim it was an accident.

The fact that most companies still turn over evidence that’s damning to their own cases is the proof that it’s generally a bad idea to accidentally destroy evidence.

Look at it another way: If you’re speeding and get pulled over, would a judge let you off if you tell him you were only doing 70 in a 35 because you weren’t paying attention to the road?
