So… whats the endgame here. Seriously, I don’t want to sound all 2nd amendment-y, but have they ever seen a machete? It’s just a chunk of sheet metal with an edge, you can make one in a few minutes with an angle grinder. At a certain point you’re going to have to accept that humans have been killing each other for a long damn time and they’re not going to stop just because you removed some of the tools. The only real solution to stop the cycle of violence is to embrace social programs and public welfare. Preferably before you get to the point you’re implementing atlatl control and rounding up black teens for carrying rocks in a public place.

There’s a lot of potential explanations: Evacuation of VIPs, lack of confidence in airport security, the necessary transit of defenders, chickens running around without their heads, etc.

Personally I think the most straightforward conclusion is that the russians were fleeing in a chaotic panic, which isn’t an entirely unexpected response when you’re subject to a surprise attack.

I can’t think of an occasion where I’ve been listening to something online and wanted tracks - everything that would benefit from having them, I would prefer to download and run via VLC anyways. I think there just isn’t any demand for the switch, and it would break a lot of legacy tools (like auto-transcription bots) to switch, much as .webp has.

While true that some liberals also own guns, for example I am a liberal and I own a gun, I’m not sure how it’s relevant beyond that (admittedly) situationally self-evident truth. Gun culture is centered around, and the vast majority of firearms are owned by, conservatives.

Do you have a source for that? I’ve been digging around some looking for information but other than the national exit polls (which removed the question more than a decade ago I guess?) I can’t find any credible studies on it. It would be reassuring (well, kind of…) were you right, but anecdotal evidence and all that

No seriously, I used to do aluminothermic welding, trust me when I say it’s an extremely frustrating substance to use. And on top of that, it is incredibly conspicuous. Unless you both know what you’re doing and what you’re doing can only be done by introducing a huge thermal mass (for example, screwing up a precision bearing surface on a piece of equipment. Note that you can’t really cut through material with thermite without using a burnout mold), there are way better ways to accomplish the task. It’s just not a great choice, and everything a theoretical citizen resistance would feasibly be doing could be done better, faster and safer (for you) with either some gasoline or bolt cutters…
