Yeah but if we didn’t have the internet it wouldn’t be obvious what was going on because our only connections to the outside world would be what is given to us. Most people probably wouldn’t even know who Epstein was let alone his connection to Trump. I’m only commending the actual quickness with which information can spread on online, not the internet itself. The modern internet is still an absolute disaster.

I think a lot of people involved in the idea to go to war with Iran were severely underestimating the power of the internet. I’d say it’s the only saving grace with having old fucks in office is that they can’t bullshit us like they used to, for better or for worse. Back when the “War on Terror” started we were all hopped up on patriotism and it started out in a time where getting news from the internet was uncommon and most people relied on whatever local news they had. Everything, including public opinion, works faster with the internet. Whereas with Vietnam and the “War on Terror” you’d get an update once a week or even month, we get updates by the second. We didn’t have to wait to see how much of a failure Iran was. We knew from day one that it was a shit show.

As a kid I used to jailbreak my friends iPods for them. Bypassing identity verification is stupid easy in comparison and I’m sure there are tutorials out there already. The only thing these laws accomplish is collecting more data from people that “don’t care” or “don’t have anything to hide” so it can be used against them in the future or sold off. Why do you think so many companies are lobbying for this? Calling it “age verification” is disingenuous. It’s identity verification and data collection. And the average person will just click “yes” so they can get back to what they were doing.

When I was a CAD tech for that same land surveying company I absolutely refused to send anything out unless someone else had checked it. But there’s a huge difference between doing a good job at work and having a baby sitter while on the job. If anything, I’d say having someone constantly monitoring me makes me do a worse job because it’s so much more stressful.

I’ve worked many different kinds of jobs in my life. I’ve worked in restaurants, retail, fast food, construction, and land surveying. These days I have an office job, and lemme tell you, I’d take any of those other jobs again if my boss told me he was going to monitor my mouse movements and keystrokes.

This right after they said they are going to stop porting their games to PC. Guess I’ll just have to live without PlayStation games. I have hundreds of games in my backlog anyway, I think I’ll survive.

I imagine a lot of defaced currency in the future, allegedly. Maybe I’ll keep a few pristine ones for when MAGA wants to buy them as collector items in 15 years. I already know they’ll spend any amount of money on stupid shit like hats and stickers so I’m sure I could make decent amount. Only MAGA would be dumb enough to spend a hundred bucks on a ten dollar bill.

How about at a random interval once every couple months it will ask you to draw a picture of a cat in the browser and if it finds your drawing process too similar or the image too similar to one that’s already in the database it will flag it without telling you. Three strikes and your out kinda rule. It’s like drug tests but for the internet.

Even if you did, like, a line across the screen to save time there’s no way in hell it’d be the same as anything else in that database unless you are extremely unlucky.

There are so many ways to do human verification that have worked for years. The biggest reason bots are plaguing the internet is because these corpos don’t really try anymore. There’s literally no reason to do face scans or IDs other than to unanonymize people and take their data.

That’s crazy. I believe that’s close to 2% of the entire male population. And most of those dying are working age men. I wouldn’t be surprised if this fucked up their economy worse than the war itself.

Hitler took everything that Mussolini did with fascism and made it more efficient and better suited for his purposes, at least in the beginning. Trump isn’t doing anything like that. He’s just copying other authoritarians and doing a slapped ass job in the process. If anything, Hitler would be disappointed with Trump on how ennificent he is.

I remember turning down everyone in my first play through of Baldur’s Gate 3 as I thought to myself “yo why is everyone trying to fuck me I thought we were just buds.”

I didn’t go looking for evidence for obvious reasons, but I find reports that it’s generating CSAM plausible.

This has been my biggest concern whenever I hear of generative AI doing these things. Grok is getting the training data from somewhere and has enough of it to generate these images on demand. You can’t even get most generative AI models to show you a glass of wine filled to the brim because it has no training data for such an image but it can generate CSAM no problem.

Personally, I’d absolutely love to watch a bunch of white people do competitive speed walking. That shit sounds hilarious. I imagine the commentary would be on par with dog show commentary.
