Simplest is best, IMO. they’re all gonna be the same generally and the high-end ones don’t really offer anything the low-end ones don’t (maybe materials). If I had my druthers and it was feasible I’d get a used commercial one with a hot water line for tea/oats.

Software support is also going to be an important part of the price - the Steam Deck made sense to me because it was Linux being shipped to a few variants of the same hardware so there’s less involuntary guesswork/fucking around than there would be with a handheld-shaped PC and no OS to go with it.

That being said at this price they should have figured out (after bundling a damn controller with the thing!) how to offer some discounted SSD/HDD enclosures with it so you can have it double-duty as a home-theater PC/Jellyfin server. Would also make a straight upgrade from an old computer easier (just pull the game drive).

TBH it tells you more about the people using LLMs for this sort of stuff than it does LLMs. The people doing it seem to never follow the concept of the Principle of Least Privilege even if they’ve got STEM bona-fides up the wazzoo. Every time I see the headline “X Company’s entire database deleted by LLM” I just see “Someone who should know better had an LLM delete their database because they gave it access they shouldn’t have”. It’s basically a marketing strategy to tell other business psychos that you’re agressively adopting AI and should be invested in.

So is this a big change in the actual cost to get a potato in your hand or is this just a change in the futures contracts? You can sell the futures contracts on to someone else for more money so if it’s just a change in the value of the contract, it doesn’t have as strong relation to the actual price of getting some mash in the mouth.

I think the charging cables themselves are way more of a risk than the cars themselves (at least from Walmart’s perspective). Those cables have a lot of copper in them and it’s easier to steal those than the cars, and they’re balls-deep in surveillance tech so they’ll probably do the thing where they let people do it enough until they reach felony levels and then send the cops after them.
