Supervisor194@lemmy.worldto SaltyCaramelApple@sh.itjust.works•Do you remember when Apple felt… fun? When was that, for you, and what were you enjoying?4·19 days agoI grew up in the //e era. That shit was a blast. I learned a lot about Assembly and I learned Basic back then too. Copying disks, defeating copy protection was a rite of passage. I was actually bummed when Steve left and things got so bad.
So when Steve came back and things picked back up with the iPod, I was kinda jazzed for it. But I never bought in to the hype. iPods started the whole ridiculous pricing model. First thing I actually bought was a 3GS because there really was nothing else like it.
I got into Mac laptops because my work gave me one and I was a Linux nerd by that time so the fact that it’s Unix under the hood has always been super appealing to me, still is. But the pricing still keeps me several years behind, I do not buy Apple new, always used. Gotta give them props for hardware longevity though. My daily driver is a 14/yo Air.
Never have felt the magic like back in the day though. Now it just feels like the lesser of several evils.
They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could control the cyborg cockroaches, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
Well then, rage against the machine for the next 30 years and see if they kill it in favor of a nice, strict language that everybody loves. Maybe you could suggest one here for consideration.
It’s not that hard to understand what it is doing and why the decision was made to make it do that. JavaScript has a particular purpose and it’s mission is not consistency.
It’s not like TypeScript doesn’t exist if you just get lightheaded at the idea of learning JavaScript’s quirks and mastering using it despite them.
Satisfying isn’t it? I had a fancy mini-fridge that died after 5 years. We called a repair guy and he said it needed a new board but when he called the company, they said they don’t make them and just suggested we buy a new fridge. Well no shit… I’m sure they WOULD like it if I bought another one of their crap fridges, but whatever - not gonna happen. So since I had a brick on my hands anyway, I pulled the board and Googled “most common reason for PCB failure” and the answer was “capacitors.” A short Youtube video explaining how to find bad ones and voila: I found the culprit, a swollen and useless capacitor.
Thirty-seven cents later (well, $2.22, I had to buy half a dozen from an eBay vendor) and she started right up (I already had desolder/solder tools). Felt great.
Was going to say this. Unlike Gimp, Photopea’s UI is extremely similar to Photoshop so it’s much more intuitive to use if you come from that background.
I don’t think they sound particularly like a human baby because I can’t stand the sound of a human baby crying but when my cat talks I melt into a useless gibbering
idiotfood dispenser.
“Do your research” is a dogwhistle and of course what it really means is “Google what you want to be true and read all the shit from morons like you who agree with you.”
Supervisor194@lemmy.worldto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•What would this list look like for your generation?1·3 months agoI had to look it up too. “A slang term among Zoomers and Gen Alpha, mostly used ironically in Brainrot and Slang Overload memes, such as the Ohio Rizz Gyatt trend.”
Supervisor194@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Oblivion remake is... really making it apparent how outdated Bethesda is in its approach to making gamesEnglish151·3 months agoYou think this is a half assed remake? To me this feels like a significant upgrade (and not just to graphics) while maintaining the core experience and I’m kinda shocked at how good it is.

Doubtful in Vancouver.

There are no pines in this picture.

Supervisor194@lemmy.worldto World News@lemmy.world•‘This Should Be Shocking’: Conservative Judge Blasts White House As Senator Finally Accesses Abrego GarciaEnglish1·3 months agoIt is, as we have noted, all too possible to see in this case an incipient crisis, but it may present an opportunity as well. We yet cling to the hope that it is not naïve to believe our good brethren in the Executive Branch perceive the rule of law as vital to the American ethos. This case presents their unique chance to vindicate that value and to summon the best that is within us while there is still time.
You stupid motherfucker, you and your kind caused this. Sit there and act like the Executive are a bunch of civil-minded policy wonks instead of a bunch of deadly jackbooted criminals empowered by YOUR GODDAMN RULINGS. What a load of horseshit.
You mis-spelled “belligerently doubling down.”
Interesting to note that this granite is actually called Galaxy Black with the name dating back to its first commercial discovery and quarrying in India long about 1982-1985, and yet the Hubble Deep Field image was taken in 1995.
