The whole time the famine happened, Ireland was exporting food to England. And the English refused to give aid because it’d reward those pesky lazy overbreeding Irish poors. When they did send aid they refused to send milled corn so that those lazy starving Irish had to WORK for their damn corn gruel!

Polyester, acrylic, spandex, nylon. It’s sad that plastic clothes are cheaper than natural materials. Then again, natural materials probably need nitrogen fertilizer, made from fossil gas.
ODGreen@slrpnk.netto Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•The Ryazan Refinery was visited by Ukrainian UAVs again.English1·3 months ago2 things might be happening recently, independently or not. Ukraine is ramping up the number of drones being sent out and getting more hits on refineries and factories. Or enough russian air defense units like S-300s have been taken out that it’s easier for drones to get by. Or both. The results are clear. Russia’s economy is going up in smoke.

But historically Canada has been content to be slightly leftward of the USA and to congratulate itself for it. If Mar-A-Gulago comes to pass, Canada will probably be happy with some intimidation and silencing of progressives. At least it’s not USA!

The energy transition is more accurately an energy addition. Some renewables on top of a still-increasing pile of burning fossil fuels.
Same with EVs. More are being sold every year but more ICE cars are being sold, too.
Until the fossil fuel industry actually shrinks, things are hopeless.
Russia already is doing this!
Very nice looking knife.
Mostly I use a regular kitchen knife (ie non serrated) for bread too, just have to keep it very sharp. It’s carbon steel so it’s easy to hone and strop.

Modern bikes being less maintainable is largely on the extreme low-end like Walmart bikes, or extreme high end carbon-fiber nonsense designed for rich weekend warriors.
Best if you find a shop that deals in second-hand bikes and get a cheap one. A bike that has been maintained by such a shop is likely to continue being maintainable. Plus you may not know what kind of bike you like til you ride it for a while so don’t spend too much for your first one.
