  • Have you ever heard of gambler’s ruin? It’s the name of a few different results in statistics, but the one we want is this:

In statistics, gambler’s ruin is the fact that a gambler playing a game with negative expected value will eventually go bankrupt, regardless of their betting system.

Now in modern US elections, does your bet have a positive or negative expected value for democracy? Is America becoming more or less of a democracy every election on average? Apply the theorem above to your answer and see what you get.

  • My guess is that the period without warfare allowed Palestine to develop some economic stability and power of its own, which Israel perceived as a long-term threat.

There was no period without warfare or economic stability in Palestine. Israel went to war in Gaza four times between the second intifada and 2023, in addition to the blockade that meant no serious economic development could happen. As for the West Bank, also since the second intifada it has been under an economic stranglehold by Israel, and settlements are only one step removed from the warfare you’re talking about. So… Yeah. Things were not getting better for Palestinians before October 7th as far as I’m aware.

  • Ken Martin had his first real test in David Hogg and he failed it. He might be an improvement, but he seems to not be a radical change from what was there before. That said my point isn’t that the DNC should be reformed (though that would certainly be welcome), but that the American left needs to be willing to criticize and organize against the DNC. If that’s not necessary then all is good, but American progressives need to be willing to beat the Democratic Party with a stick when it misbehaves rather than make excuses about how every election is The Most Important Election Ever™. Around these parts in 2024 you couldn’t write anything criticizing the DNC or Biden (later Harris) without being called a Russian troll and that attitude needs to change.

  • He’s actively being aggressive to allies, now. Big(ger) difference.

Who almost all happen to be white people. My point is that to the vast majority of the planet, Trump’s bullying is how America always acts. Trump is just bringing that to the people who thought they’d always be on the evil empire’s good side, and their response to that is to hypocritically cry about the monster they helped create. When you look at the wider world, the US is as evil and domineering as it has always been.

  • At least read the link you are sharing my man.

    I did.

Also Wikipedia doesn’t provide enough context for you to understand the conflict.

True enough, but I’m not trying to understand the conflict or making a deep point that would require such an understanding. I’m just saying that Kashmir division and Kashmir are different things. Also while they’re not especially committed, both Pakistan and India have “we own Kashmir” as their official position. This isn’t controversial stuff; it’s literally what both sides are saying in public.

  • I don’t know if you are Pakistani or not but they claim none of Kashmir or Jammu or Ladakh. They claim that it should be an independent country.

I’m not Pakistani, but this information is easily available on Wikipedia.

Though these regions are in practice administered by their respective claimants, neither India nor Pakistan has formally recognised the accession of the areas claimed by the other. India claims those areas, including the area “ceded” to China by Pakistan in the Trans-Karakoram Tract in 1963, are a part of its territory, while Pakistan claims the entire region excluding Aksai Chin and Trans-Karakoram Tract.

-Wikipedia on Kashmir. Also if you open the Wikipedia page on Pakistan or India you’ll find that Kashmir is highlighted as “territory claimed but not controlled”. Also while I’m not familiar with the details, Indian repression is very much existent in all of Jammu and Kashmir. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_rights_abuses_in_Jammu_and_Kashmir#Massacres
