That’s not real constructive feedback. If your friend has actual critiques of your concept, that’s one thing, but just saying something seems stupid is meaningless and carries zero weight.

Don’t let people live their life and your life too. If you’re passionate about an idea, try it and see if it works. Worse case scenario, it fails, and you learn from it and get lots of practice for your next idea. Which still might be bad, but it will almost certainly be less bad, and same with the next, and the next, and before you know it, you have hundreds of hours of practice and experience and you’re creating real cool stuff.

Also, sometimes ideas are good, but you currently lack the skill to execute them well. That just means you need to increase your skill level. An idea that fails badly when you first start out, might turn out fantastic 5 - 10 years down the road.

Film directors/writers sometimes talk about this, where they had an idea or a script for a movie that they wanted to make, but they didn’t have the budget and necessary experience to do it justice early in their career.

TL;DR Your friend’s “feedback” is worthless, if you’re really passionate about this idea, go for it. Worst case scenario, you gain a bunch of experience trying to make it.

Waterfox on Mobile has been working well for me so far.

A lot of people get fed up with slow or no progress, so they fall for supporting approaches that “get things done.” Even though they go very wrong, and by that point, some are too lost in the sauce to admit it’s wrong or severely off-base.

Being involved in anarchist and decentralized leftist orgs, it’s very discouraging how few people care and how little power we have.

Often times it takes weeks of planning and everybody’s collective effort and spare resources to provide meals to a few dozen people, or to host a single information booth or class at a larger leftist meet up.

After years of that, the temptations of centralized power to just dictate to the masses what will happen is very strong. The justification goes something like, “yeah there are a ton of problems with XYZ, but at least they are accomplishing ABC!”

I feel it too when I look around my country of the USA. Sure China is State-capitalist, authoritarian, pseudo-dystopian police state, and super politically repressive. But god damn it, they have some of the best public transport in the world, a kickass tech and manufacturing sector, solid public healthcare, and the actually imprison and even execute billionaire scumbags…

When I have to encounter the level of American idiocy on a weekly basis, listen to the most asinine politicians and talking heads, and endure capitalist bootlicking propaganda everywhere, I start to get really tempted to advocate for the China way…

The watch command is very useful, for those who don’t know, it starts an automated loop with a default of two seconds and executes whatever commands you place after it.

It allows you to actively monitor systems without having to manually re-run your command.

So for instance, if you wanted to see all storage block devices and monitor what a new storage device shows up as when you plug it in, you could do:

watch lsblk

And see in real time the drive mount. Technically not “real time” because the default refresh is 2 seconds, but you can specify shorter or longer intervals.

Obviously my example is kind of silly, but you can combine this with other commands or even whole bash scripts to do some cool stuff.

Finally got my crap together. Career taking off, got rid of my toxic relationships, adopted several cats, getting into really good shape.

One reason: It’s not FOSS, and because of that, the Capitalist profit motive will always push the creators/owners towards enshitification.

The same forces act upon FOSS too, but the difference is that FOSS has structural immunity built into it. If the software enshitifies, it can be forked and maintained by a community that values software freedom.

We’ve seen it happen time and again. Terraform, CentOS, RHEL, The Xen Hypervisor, etc. When companies try to take freedom away from FOSS, they fail, because their users and maintainers are empowered by FOSS licenses (especially restrictive ones like the GPL) and can fight back.

With proprietary software, the users are powerless, only the owners have control.

Don’t trust promises, good intentions, or corporate slogans. Trust free software and the open ecosystems they thrive in.

Have you looked into Tailscale or an equivalent solution like Netbird?

You could set up a tailnet, create unique tags for each machine, add both machines to the tailnet, and then set up each machine’s network interface to only go through the tailnet.

Then you just use Tailscale’s ACLs with the tags to isolate those machines, making sure they can only talk to whatever central device(s) or services you want them to, but also stopping them from talking to or even seeing each other.

Ah yes, slave away for decades to make the company’s executives/owners richer, sacrificing watching your kids grow up, sacrificing your relationship with your spouse, family, and friends.

But he won’t do that, because he is a religious fundamentalist. He doesn’t care about being logical, or reasonable, or understanding anything. He heard a certain viewpoint that he vibes with and stubbornly and fanatically holds to it.

Same as radical Islamists, or the Crusaders, or conspiracy theory nuts. They didn’t reason themselves into their worldview. It wasn’t carefully and methodically researched, it isn’t something they are willing to change or adapt or be wrong on.

Oh yeah of course, the US is an imperialist, neocolonialist power that does a tremendous amount of harm in the world.

I’m an anarchist, so you won’t find me singing the praises of any state power, for sure not the US. They do what all states do, consolidate centralized power and dominate as many people as they can.

My point was that some folks act like anything that opposes the interests of the US is automatically good, and that’s not true, ISIS opposes the US, but they’re a pretty fucked up group of religious extremists, same with the Westboro Baptist Church hate group, who also oppose the US strongly, but are total scumbags.

“The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Isn’t always true. Just because a country/political faction opposes US hegemony doesn’t automatically make them morally superior.

Sea of thieves has been working on Linux for years, and really well. I regularly play it on both my Linux gaming rig and on my Steam Deck, it runs awesome on both.
