The launch technology is already taken care of. We still need interplanetary radiation shielding and a landing system that doesn’t bounce them across the landscape like a ball, but that’s no reason we can’t start now.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Epic Game Store’s free giveaways just cause a huge spike in Steam sales, reveals New Blood CEOEnglish
5·2 months agoI’ve installed games from both Epic and GOG on my steam deck via Lutris, and after it’s installed, it just takes a few clicks to have it visible in non-desktop mode. A little tedious sure, but not terrible.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Is Grass-Fed Beef Really Better for the Climate: in terms of climate-warming emissions, “it actually comes out no better — in fact, a little worse.”English1·2 months agoGrass fed is better for the environment…if you are feeding them native grasses that aren’t watered, mowed, or fertilized on land that isn’t suitable for much else in such a way as to not absolutely destroy that environment. Now, how are we going to raise the other cows we’re eating, because I suspect being able to raise 10% this way would be a shockingly high estimate.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney says Canada 'welcomes the opportunity for freedom' after Maduro's captureEnglish
0·2 months agoBut he also wrote that Canada has “long supported a peaceful, negotiated, and Venezuelan-led transition process that respects the democratic will of the Venezuelan people,” adding that Canada calls on all parties to respect international law.
“We stand by the Venezuelan people’s sovereign right to decide and build their own future in a peaceful and democratic society,” Carney’s statement said.
That doesn’t sound supportive of anything Trump did or what he wants to do next, just acknowledging that Canada has maintained that Maduro shouldn’t have been in charge since 2018.

0·2 months agoYou’re dramatically reducing your credibility by citing The Daily Mail. Ive never been to the UK and I know it’s a right-wing rag. I mean, I literally didn’t know they’d done an article about Sasquatch until I searched for it while writing this post, but here it is.

1·3 months agoI think nerdy stuff is attractive to people on the autism spectrum, and while people on the spectrum tend to like consistency, they also have trouble recognizing social norms, let alone following them. So some act that is in large part (from other people’s perspective, at least) a deviation from social norms isn’t that much of a problem to them. And why wouldn’t trans people prefer to be in spaces where people don’t care how they’re living their life? Now, add on that exposure tends to normalize social experiences, and people on the spectrum are already weird in their own way, and the neurotypical people in those nerdy spaces are already used to dealing with weird people. Adding a different flavor of weird isn’t that much of a stretch.
Or, to put it another way,

Ask Science@lemmy.world•Has there ever been a viable alternative to the phsycialist model of the universe?English
0·3 months agoIt sounds like you’re trying to use the wrong tool, though. Science is a great system for learning about the observable universe, but less so for other things. To put it another way, science is great for telling you how, philosophy is great for exploring why.

For the millionth time, if every satellite in the starlink constellation were to fail today, they would be gone in about five years at the high end. They are low enough in the atmosphere that they have to fire station-keeping rockets to maintain orbit. If they collide, the small pieces deorbit even faster due to drag.
