I did mention them. Not always plenty in a particular subject area, often takes a lot of time to get published.
Going open access is great, and that’s what I do, but it has to be said a lot of grants do NOT pay for open access publications, and diamond open access (free for authors and readers) is quite rare and you can wait eternity to get published.
So, it has to be paid straight out of personal finances.


Making good use of your already existing hardware is always a superior choice
Let’s be real here: cars are more convenient for a lot of things, especially when proper bike infrastructure is still lacking. That’s why people tend to move in that direction.
However, keeping at it is not sustainable and makes life worse in the long run. Adopting sustainable strategies comes with some pain points, but it’s simply the only way forward.

There is also no such thing as climate-friendly energy. Renewables allow to drastically reduce the footprint, but not remove it.
We will always be better off spending less energy and developing approaches that won’t require installing an energy equivalent of several nuclear power plants just to feed the computers of one company.
Also, it is important to give credit where credit is due. Apple, for example, is the only Big Tech company that seems to fare well on the energy sustainability front. Part of it might be offloading heavy AI tasks to ChatGPT, though, which might have missed the calculations, but they also have their own model.
