Syntactic Structures is really the most influential thing he published. Modern programming is based on that research.
His political activism kinda stemmed from that research, since once you understand language structure, you can pretty easily parse it to understand propaganda.
I think Chomsky is to Anarchism what Einstein is to Marxism-Leninism though. They both have a scientific breakthrough that directly results in those social theories when applied to history. The structure of language as control, and the structure of the universe as a Dialectic.
